Home Reading

Dear families,
Our reading program at school is supplemented by daily home reading from each student.  We will be working towards an end of the year sundae party by earning a different piece of the sundae each month.
As well, one Home Reading Reflection is due in at the end of the month along with the record of reading minutes.

FAQs
When does my child hand it in?
The duotang is to be handed in to me at the end of each month.
September 30                   October 30                    November 26
December 18                    January 29                    February 26
March 24                          April 29                        May 27

When and how much does my child have to read?
Students are expected to read out loud at home for at least 20 minutes for 5 days a week.   If your child happens to miss a day of reading, they can make up for it the next day.  In all, your child must read a minimum of 100 minutes per week in order to earn a piece of the sundae.

What do I have to do with the Home Reading Tracker?
The Home Reading Tracker is designed to let us keep track of what your child is reading and how much is being read.  Have your child record the book title, date and minutes every time he/she reads.  Please place your initials in the correct column after you have read with your child.

What are Home Reading Reflections?
The Home Reading Reflection is an opportunity for your child to summarize what was read and share any thoughts about the book.  My expectation is one reflection done each month [even if the book is not finished], although children are encouraged to continuously summarize and reflect while they are reading.

Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support.  I am looking forward to the reading we will be doing this year.

Here are all the sheets you'll need for Home Reading.  I should be adding them into the duotangs as we need them, however, if I should forget or if you run out of sheets before I see your duotang again, please feel free to print off your own copy at home.
